A street in Shanghai has innovatively launched a special recycling program for eyeglass cases, exploring a path that combines "waste-free city" construction with services benefiting the public.

Baoshan Road Street in Shanghai, in collaboration with an environmental organization, launched a "Zero Waste Day" event at an eyewear market, attracting merchants and residents by exchanging old eyeglass cases for environmentally friendly products. On the first day of the event, over 10 kilograms of eyeglass cases were recycled, along with 137 kilograms of other recyclable materials, and 60 liters of bulk liquid soap were distributed. Merchants reported that the accumulated outdated eyeglass cases had long occupied storage space, and the recycling activity solved the cleaning problem while contributing to environmental protection. Residents also actively participated with their unused items, and the scene was orderly. The event also collaborated with middle school volunteers to conduct waste classification education, enhancing young people's environmental awareness through practical education. The street plans to regularize this model, setting up a special recycling day every month, and collaborating with commercial entities and schools to create a co-built and co-managed environmental ecosystem.
